The Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run

The Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run is the highlight of the Canberra Day celebrations in Commonwealth Park. 

It brings the Canberra community together to celebrate and support the city and its people. 

By taking part in the fun run proceeds from your registration will go towards charities across Canberra through the work of Hands Across Canberra.  

By partnering with Hands Across Canberra and Stromlo Running for the Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run, we are bringing Canberra together to support  the community.  

The Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run will take place from Stage 88, Commonwealth Park. 

The course for the 5km and 10km run is around Lake Burley Griffin. 

The 2.5km run is through Commonwealth Park.

The Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run is on Monday 10 March 2025 from 7:30am to 11:30am. 

The race start times are 

  • 8:00am - 10km  

  • 8:15am - 5km  

  • 8:30am - 2.5km  

From 7.30am -11.30am attendees can enjoy the Little Burley Market pop up at Canberra Day, along with a range of food and family activities as we celebrate being part of the Canberra community. 

The Fun Run

The Canberra Day Appeal Fun Run will offer three distance options:  

  • 2.5km for families, children and those who would prefer to walk 

  • 5km for those who would like more of a challenge 

  • 10km for regular runners and the serious athletes   

  • 10km - $45.00 

  • 5km - $35.00 

  • 2.5km - $15.00 per person 

You must register for this event by Sunday 9 March 2025 by 5pm
 
If you want to collect your race bib before race day, make sure to register before midnight on 3 March.

  • 10km -  runners must be 13 years  and over

  • 5km and 2.5km: There is no minimum age. All children under the age of 11 must be accompanied by a guardian. The child’s guardian must be entered in the event. 

All participants who register will receive a race bib.  

Before the event: 

If you register before midnight on 3 March 2025 you can collect your bib from the Canberra Region Visitors Centre from Monday 4 - Sunday 9 March (optional). Collection times are from 9am - 4pm daily. Please present your email confirmation with name/number to collect. Multiple bibs can be collected. Remaining bibs can be collected until 10 mins before your race starts on event day. 

On the day: 

Participants can collect their bib on race day in Commonwealth Park near the start/finish line from 7:30am until 8:20am. 

Bibs can be collected until 10 mins before your race starts on event day. Please allow additional time to collect and be race-ready for your start.

All participants of the 10km and 5km will receive a finisher medal on completion of their race.  

Participants of the 2.5km will receive a CBR badge. 

Getting There

There is parking a short walk from Stage 88 at Commonwealth Park at: 

  • Regatta Point carpark  

  • Canberra Olympic Pool carpark 

You can also park in the city or at the CIT and walk to Stage 88. 

Accessible Parking is available at Regatta Place. 

Please note: Parking at Regatta Place is limited, and the carpark will close once it is filled. 

Please plan ahead and allow plenty of travel time as congestion and delays are possible. 

No, there will be no road closures in place for the Canberra Day event.  You can check site for road closures

General

Toilets will be available at the start and finish line, as well as public toilets available around the course. 

Toilets are also available in the event hub. 

No, pets are not allowed at this event. 

Yes!   

Attendees are welcome to bring their own food and non-alcoholic drinks. 

As this is a family friendly event, alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted

There will be a selection of local vendors at the event for you to purchase coffee, food and drinks from. 

Yes, there will be a first aid tent located within the event site visible from the start/finish lines.    

In addition to the First Aid tent there will be a roving medic as well as medics on e-bikes monitoring the run routes.
